Overview

Daniel Katz is an attorney in Holland & Knight's Century City office and a member of the Real Estate Practice Group. Mr. Katz focuses his practice on a broad range of commercial real estate transactions across diverse asset classes and geographic regions.

Mr. Katz represents a variety of lending institutions on complex real estate financings, including the origination of mortgage and mezzanine loans related to the acquisition, construction or refinancing of commercial properties throughout the U.S. As part of his finance practice, he advises clients in connection with participation, co-lender and intercreditor arrangements, as well as loan portfolio purchase and sale transactions. He regularly works with borrowers, debt funds, banks and other institutional lenders on warehouse lending transactions, including repurchase facilities, syndicated loan transactions and note-on-note transactions.

In addition, Mr. Katz has significant experience advising real estate funds, investors, lenders, developers and operators on the acquisition, disposition and financing of single-family rental (SFR) and build-to-rent (BTR) communities. This entails representing lenders and borrowers in matters related to bridge, term and delayed-draw financing facilities, as well as working with owner-operators in acquisitions and dispositions of bulk housing portfolios.

Mr. Katz offers a deep understanding of his clients' business challenges and goals. He draws from a substantial tenure as associate general counsel at a vertically integrated real estate operating company, where he focused on variety of strategies across real estate and loan assets.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Katz practiced at a nationally recognized firm and at a global law firm's Los Angeles office.

Representative Experience

  • Represented a lender in connection with the financing of multiple hotel projects
  • Represented a lender in the issuance of numerous mortgage loan facilities secured by portfolios of residential and commercial properties
  • Represented a programmatic joint venture in the acquisition, disposition and financing of multifamily projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
  • Represented a national operator of more than 50,000 multifamily units on multiple acquisitions and financings of its portfolio
  • Represented a global asset manager in connection with the structuring and issuance of warehouse lines of credit
  • Represented the master ground lessee at an airport located in Hawthorne, California, in the expansion of its aviation operations, including the construction financing for new hangars and aviation facilities
  • Represented a real estate operator and developer in connection with its acquisition of a Los Angeles hotel
  • Represented a real estate syndicator in the preparation of its private placement memorandum and subsequent capital raising and debt financing for a ground-up development project
  • Represented a real estate operating company in connection with financing facilities secured, in part, by pools of single-family and multifamily residential properties and defaulted mortgage notes
