Alan J. Schwartz is a business attorney in Holland & Knight's New York office and a member of the firm's Corporate, M&A and Securities Group. Mr. Schwartz counsels clients on tax matters relating to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other business formations, combinations and divestitures. Mr. Schwartz represents investment funds in connection with fund formation tax matters and investors in connection with tax considerations and due diligence matters. Mr. Schwartz also provides tax advice in connection with capital markets transactions, U.S. and cross-border debt and equity securities issuances, and structured financial products.
In addition, Mr. Schwartz has significant international tax experience in connection with inbound and outbound tax planning, including withholding and tax treaty-related matters.
Mr. Schwartz also assists clients in connection with IRS and state tax examinations and inquiries. He has assisted numerous individuals and companies with compliance matters in connection with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR).
Representing large and midsize businesses, financial institutions, investment funds, family offices, high-net-worth individuals and tax-exempt organizations, Mr. Schwartz has gained experience in a variety of industries, including banking and finance, sports and entertainment, real estate, blockchain and shipping.
Mr. Schwartz has been a speaker or panelist on tax issues at numerous conferences organized by the Tax Executives Institute.
