Robert M. Shaw
Robert M. Shaw is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Boston office and a member of the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. He was named a Top Lawyer of 2021 by Boston magazine.
Mr. Shaw has extensive experience defending class actions, having represented defendants in precedent-setting cases arising out of consumer claims, employment practices and catastrophic disasters, including a massive coastal oil spill. These cases have included allegations of unfair and deceptive trade practices, unlawful advertising, breach of warranty, negligence, violation of employment statutes and many other causes of action.
In addition, Mr. Shaw has extensive experience litigating commercial disputes, including cases alleging breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, misappropriation of trade secrets, trademark and copyright infringement, Lanham Act violations and many other claims.
Mr. Shaw also represents businesses and industries facing attorney general and regulatory scrutiny. He led a successfully effort to prevent a new state law and its enabling relegations from coming into effect on constitutional grounds.
Mr. Shaw has been honored to represent several foreign sovereigns and their state-owned enterprises in litigation in the United States, as well as in Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Shaw has an active appellate practice, having handled appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Third, Ninth, Eleventh and District of Columbia Circuits, as well as the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court.
In his active pro bono practice, Mr. Shaw has represented several candidates for political asylum, an abused prisoner and a disabled child.
