Seminar
August 8 - 11, 2023
Huntington Place
1 Washington Boulevard
Detroit, MI 48226

Environment attorneys Jose Almanzar, Amy Edwards and Nicholas Targ will participate in the 2023 National Brownfields Training Conference in Detroit. The event will offer sessions on any and all brownfield-related topics, including state and federal laws, liability, the develpoment process and more.

Mr. Almanzar will present on the first day of the event in a panel focused on various legal issues involved in brownfields redevelopment. Topics will include state and federal environmental laws, environmental costs and constraints, and insurance strategies. Speakers will share insights from the legal, consultant and redeveloper perspectives that can help attendees position their projects for success.

Ms. Edwards and Mr. Targ will speak on the second day of the event about landowner liability protections (LLPs). Understanding potential liability exposure is crucial when purchasing brownfield properties, and although amendments to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERLCA) established LLPs, questions about how to rely on them remain. This session will explain pre-acquisition and post-acquisition requirements, state law implications for reliance on LLPs, as well as case law summaries.
