Now What? The Future of Trump Tariffs and Trade Policy After Supreme Court Ruling
The Brookings Institution
International Trade attorney Patrick Childress will join an online briefing hosted by The Brookings Institution on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision invalidating the Trump Administration's use of International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs, which removed the executive branch's chosen path to impose broad, country-specific duties. He will examine how the ruling affects the administration's ability to deploy tariffs quickly, which other statutory authorities may be used instead of IEEPA and what it means for household and business costs, investments, supply chains, federal revenues and potential refunds. Mr. Childress will also consider how durable other recent U.S. trade policy shifts may be in light of the court's decision and what its conclusions could mean for the global trade system.
