Navigating State Paid Family & Medical Leave Programs
Labor, Employment and Benefits attorneys David Santeusanio and Stephanie Merabet co-authored an article describing state paid family and medical leave (PFML) programs and outlining compliance considerations for employers. More and more states are implementing PFML programs funded by payroll taxes, and among the steps employers must take to ensure compliance are providing notice to employees, developing new PFML policies and revising existing leave policies. In this article, the authors address areas including eligibility and types of leave, funding, workplace notice, implementing a PFML policy and integrating it into existing policy, documentation and recordkeeping, and responding to leave requests. Their article was published by Bloomberg Law.
