New Law Expands Covered Sick Time Under Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law

Employee Benefit Plan Review
Miriam McKendall | Olivia O'Dwyer

Labor and employment attorneys Miriam McKendall and Olivia O'Dwyer co-authored an Employee Benefit Plan Review article examining recent amendments to the Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law under the Act Promoting Access to Midwifery Care and Out-of-Hospital Birth Options. The article notes the law, effective Nov. 21, 2024, expands sick time coverage for employees to include events such as a pregnancy loss and failed adoption or surrogacy, which the authors contend are significant changes that aim to provide comprehensive support for employees' physical and mental health needs.

Ms. McKendall and Ms. O'Dwyer also published a Holland & Knight alert on this topic.
