The Adoption of the Sustainability Report in Mexico: Characteristics and Impact of Its Application
Business attorneys Alejandro F. Sánchez Mújica, Alejandro A. Sánchez Mújica and Diego Cantón published an article in ICC México's Pauta magazine detailing the new mandatory sustainability report for securities issuers and other participants in the securities market in Mexico. The country's National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) adopted the International Norms for Financial Information regarding sustainability at the beginning of the 2025 fiscal year, opening the door for other environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards, including the annual report. In this article, the authors describe the report's features and information it should disclose, from corporate governance structures to financial risks and capital strategies to environmental impacts of financial activities, and explain how its issuance can benefit investors.
