Gainesville Music Streaming Site Faces Copyright Lawsuits

Jacksonville Business Journal
The music on-demand website Grooveshark has tripled its number of monthly users and has nearly doubled the amount of music uploaded to the site in the past two years. But parent company Escape Media Group Inc., continues to face copyright infringement lawsuits from record labels, music licensees and distributors. "Copyright is a legal protection where the original creator owns any of his own work that is created in a physical or identifiable form," said Entertainment Law Partner Robert Labate. "The creator retains the right to be paid for use of the work and those users have to get the creator’s permission."
