Clients are Asking About Iran, But Lawyers Remain Cautious

In light of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), clients are asking their lawyers whether they will soon have access to the Iran economy. International Trade attorney Jonathan Epstein pointed out that aircraft parts suppliers have been allowed to sell to Iranian airlines since 2015, but that U.S. companies may be able to lease passenger fleets in Iran if the new deal is approved. He cautions that the world 'lease' raises "a whole set of other issues and risk analysis."

"No Western leasing company has leased an aircraft in Iran in 40 years. When you lease equipment, you're worried about your ability to repossess," said Mr. Epstein.
