Weakling or Bully? The Battle Over the CEQA, The State’s Iconic Environmental Law
West Coast Land Use and Environment Attorney Jennifer Hernandez spoke to CALmatters about the California Environment Quality Act (CEQA). CEQA is facing criticism for the state’s housing crisis, resulting in groups coming forward. Developers want CEQA to have fast-tracked approvals. On the opposite site, environmentalists want a more accurate approval process.
Ms. Hernandez explains that CEQA is “the tool of choice for preventing cities from approving high-density housing.” She went on to say that the housing projects, “are in fact the top target of CEQA lawsuits statewide.”
