Commercial Labs Push for Piece of $100B Coronavirus Relief
Senior Policy Advisor Miranda Franco was quoted in a MedTech Dive article about the recent request for federal financial relief by commercial labs. Congress appropriated $100 billion as part of the CARES Act for “eligible healthcare providers” such as hospitals. However, it is not yet clear how this fund will be administered and on Friday the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said some of it will be used to help cover care for the uninsured. Despite there being no clear direction from HHS yet, Ms. Franco contends labs may be able to garner some of the funding.
"The Secretary of HHS has broad discretion in distributing the $100 billion in emergency reimbursements, and guidance has yet to be released." Mr. Franco said.
