On the Rise: Isabel C. Diaz
Real Estate Partner Isabel C. Diaz was recently profiled by The Daily Business Review. Ms. Diaz shared her path to a career in law, her goals for the next year, her proudest professional moment and biggest hurdle. She also discussed how she is working to address issues of racial injustice in the industry and the overall impact of COVID-19 on the profession.
When asked for the best advice she has received, Ms. Diaz responded, "The best advice anyone has ever given me is to believe in myself, remember my worth and never be afraid to 'push the envelope' (i.e., ask for what is genuinely important to me and for what I deserve). Women in our profession are often afraid to 'push the envelope' — whether it be to ask for a raise or a promotion or even a day off. Women with kids have even a harder time doing this — we tend to feel 'guilty' for having kids as lawyers. Through very instrumental female mentors in my life, I have learned my 'worth.' Some conversations are easier than others, but I’ve learned to step up and not be afraid. The worst thing that can happen is that I get a 'no.'"
