Former U.S. Attorney Named To Investigate EDD Fraud

White Collar Defense attorney Eddie Jauregui was quoted in a Daily Journal article about the appointment of McGregor W. Scott as head of California's investigation into last year’s massive unemployment fraud. With California potentially looking at $30 billion in unemployment fraud, the appointment of Mr. Scott as special fraud counsel is a clear sign illegal benefits claims are a priority for the state and indicative of the complex indictments that are to come.

“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve seen a lot of collaboration and joint investigations by state and federal agencies,” said Mr. Jauregui. “I believe that his appointment will ensure that the agencies continue collaborating in a productive way and I do think it will result in increased prosecutions.”
