Biden Administration Gets Behind Coordinated Push to Cut off Russian Oil

The Washington Post

International Trade attorney Antonia Tzinova spoke with The Washington Post about the potential effects of a ban on Russian oil imports. The Biden Administration appears open to such a ban, despite concerns over already-high gas prices, with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken commenting that the U.S. has discussed a coordinated boycott of Russian oil with European allies. This strategy would be similar to the one used by the U.S. and its allies during the Obama Administration to pressure Iran into negotiating over its nuclear program. Ms. Tzinova explained how far-reaching those sanctions were, more so than the ones currently imposed on Russia.

"With Iran, pretty much everything is prohibited with the exception of some very limited transactions," she said.
