Corporate attorney Gerardo Prado Hernández was quoted in an El Financiero article suggesting that Mexico should consider imposing strategic tariffs to encourage the United States to reconsider its stance on these duties. He highlighted the importance of reaching a formal agreement and stressed the need for more lobbying efforts from industry and trade groups. Mr. Hernández also emphasized effective dialogue and communication are crucial for maintaining strong trade relations with Mexico's trade partners in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
"I think we could already announce where and in what areas we could impose tariffs, which would be an additional reason for the United States administration to somehow reconsider continuing with its current stance," he said.
