Uber Notes ‘Measured Approach’ in DOL Gig Rule Revamp Proposal

Labor, Employment and Benefits attorney Timothy Taylor spoke with Bloomberg Law about the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) proposed changes to the Worker Classification Rule for independent contractors. Although greater changes were expected, the proposal clarifies when rideshare, retail and delivery workers should be classified as independent contractors or employees who are granted the full minimum wage, overtime and other protections provided under federal wage laws. Mr. Taylor said these proposed changes do not present major differences from previous standards.

"[The regulatory text] does not contain any wild new innovations nor any carve-outs for specific types of independent contractors," he said.
