Energy Storage as a Transmission System Asset
Renewable Energy attorney Justin Boose was quoted in a PV Magazine article about energy storage projects and the ability to monetize distributed generation resources like storage assets. Mr. Boose spoke about the use of terms such as “storage as a transmission asset” and “storage as a merchant power asset” in new use cases. Mr. Broose also discussed the U.S. utility market's continued lag in the global energy storage development market compared to other countries like Germany, Chile, Lithuania and other parts of Europe affected by spiking natural gas and energy prices caused by the Russia-Ukraine War.
“You can’t make multiple use case examples for a power transmission line,” he said highlighting the use cases of storage including merchant power, energy arbitrage and contingency events such as during California’s wildfire season.
