Changes to Residential Visas in Colombia: New Barriers to Invest and Live in the Country?
Immigration attorney Juan Pablo Romero was interviewed by Bloomberg Línea about changes to visa rules in Colombia. Through Resolution 5477 of 2022, three types of visas are maintained: V (Visitor), M (Migrant) and R (Resident). One of the principal doubts that arose with the new rules is if the residential visa expires with the lack of a timely submission of a request for renewal. Mr. Romero suggested that visa holders and beneficiaries submit their renewal request before October 21, 2024, to avoid possible sanctions or negative consequences. He also shared key insights to understand the different situations that could arise.
"Specifically in what corresponds to the residential (R), it introduced a series of changes and generated some questions that still have not been clarified by the immigration authorities," he said.
