Of the LGBTIQ+ Community, 42% Suffered Discriminatory Behavior at Work
Labor and Employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was quoted in an article published by La República about a Deloitte report that revealed that 42 percent of the LGBTIQ+ community surveyed experienced non-inclusive behaviors at work. Although 79 percent acknowledged inclusion attempts by employers, the study highlighted daily challenges including discriminatory comments and jokes, underscoring the importance of improving work culture for LGBTIQ+ employees. Mr. Cuervo expressed the relevance of gender approach in public and private policies, highlighting Colombia's progress in promoting equal rights for the last 30 years.
"In Colombia, there is no rule that regulates the incorporation or obligation to associate LGBTIQ+ people, however, by virtue of the Political Constitution of Colombia and the developments that have occurred in this regard by the Court, they are people like any other who have equal rights. In recent years, what is commonly called a gender approach, has been developing in jurisprudence, mainly from the Constitutional Court," he said.
