This Is What You Should Do If You Think Your Rights Have Been Violated in a Purchase
Consumer protection attorney Danilo Romero Raad was interviewed by Asuntos Legales about consumers' rights regarding noncompliance with the delivery of products or provision of services by a company. One of the most recent cases is that of Muebles & Accesorios, which, according to consumers' complaints, has not been delivering products or responding to customers. Mr. Romero highlighted that the Colombian Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has administrative, punitive and jurisdictional functions, as well as those of inspection, surveillance and control in current consumer protection provisions. The Consumer Statute also establishes the duties and obligations of manufacturers and suppliers in relation to their responsibility for the quality, sustainability, safety and overall state of the products they offer on the market. In the case of noncompliance with these obligations, a consumer can demand the service be offered in the agreed-upon conditions, and the SIC can initiate an investigation and impose penalties.
"In the event that the consumer considers that their rights have been violated, the SIC can act as a judge and, if considered, condemn the manufacturers and/or suppliers," he said.
