Advocates Press USDA to Solve Food Aid Shortages
Agri-Pulse
Agriculture & Food Policy attorney Kayla Gebeck Carroll was quoted in an Agri-Pulse article about the ongoing food shortages affecting Native American Tribes through the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). The article highlighted the challenges faced by Tribes because of supply chain disruptions and consolidation of distribution to a single contractor, with many sites still missing food items and experiencing delays. Ms. Carroll emphasized the importance of U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) funds in providing emergency relief but noted that not all affected Tribes have signed agreements to access these funds.
"We're continuing to press them to try to get more folks to use this, because honestly, this is the only solution they've put out that's providing emergency relief," she said.
