Fake Ozempic: How Batch Numbers Help Criminal Groups Spread Dangerous Weight Loss Drugs

Reuters

Litigation attorney Sam Louis was interviewed by Reuters about the use of batch numbers by criminal groups looking to sell fake weight loss drugs such as Ozempic. The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning in July 2023 about products with batch number MP5B060, relabeled and repackaged to look authentic but actually containing counterfeit versions of semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic. Increased reports of fake Ozempic have led to action by companies alongside calls for additional regulation from global authorities.
