Private-Equity Healthcare Deals Face Tests in US Statehouses

Healthcare attorney John Saran was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article examining legislative efforts in multiple states to impose new limits on private equity investment in medical practices amid opposition from lobbyists and industry groups seeking to preserve corporate healthcare acquisitions.
Mr. Saran said if Oregon’s proposed bill, which aims to reinstate longstanding restrictions preventing non-physicians from controlling medical practices, passes the measure “would require immediate changes to medical practices in the state,” and could potentially make it more challenging for providers to secure bank loans or other financing.
