Intellectual Property attorney Danilo Romero was cited in an article published by El Colombiano about the international dispute faced by the Colombian chain Frisby as a result of the unauthorized registration of its trademark in Europe by a Spanish company. Mr. Romero emphasized the need to protect a trademark not only by registering it but also by ensuring its effective use in the markets where companies want to maintain ownership.
"Trademarks have rights but also obligations, and one of them is that they must be used. Otherwise, they are at risk because the laws themselves include provisions for cancellation because of non-use, and that can affect them," he said.
