Ex-OFAC Official Laments "More Fractured" Relationship with U.S. Allies
International Trade attorney Stephanie Connor was quoted in a Global Investigations Review (GIR) article covering her panel discussion at the organization's GIR Live: Annual Investigations Meeting New York, which focused on developments affecting U.S. export controls and sanctions compliance efforts. The article noted that collaboration on cross-border enforcement has become more difficult and highlighted panelists' observations on policy and enforcement trends. Ms. Connor, who previously served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), commented that workforce reductions at OFAC play a role in the changing enforcement landscape. However, she added, OFAC has not been as affected by cuts as agencies such as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and explained "natural attrition" occurs during administration transitions that can disrupt investigations.
