The Evolving Cyber Risk Landscape in North America

Data strategy and cybersecurity attorney Mark Francis was featured in a Q&A with Risk & Compliance magazine about the evolving cyber risk landscape in the U.S. and North America. He highlighted attacks that combine system outages and theft of sensitive data as among the major cyber risks facing businesses today and explained why companies in North America present attractive targets for malicious actors: a vast number of assets, extensive cyber liability insurance coverage and a desire to resolve issues quickly and quietly. Additionally, he shared steps organizations can take to protect themselves and their data, such as combining risk-based approaches and compliance-oriented action plans, following guidance issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and having real-world failure systems and disaster recover capabilities in place.
