Blow to Homeowners in Residential Communities: Law Targets Those Who Do Not Attend Condominium Association Meetings
Real Estate attorney Esteban García was cited in Red+Noticias regarding homeowner association assemblies in residential buildings and communities in Colombia and the consequences that unjustified nonattendance may bring. The article noted that these meetings, established under Law 675 of 2001, are key to approving budgets, reviewing financial statements, updating bylaws and making decisions about property management and the use of common areas. Mr. García explained that condo bylaws must expressly treat nonattendance as an infraction and clearly define the applicable sanction in order to introduce and impose formal penalties for lack of attendance.
