Law Firms Step Up to Navigate Biz Opportunities in Venezuela

Energy & Natural Resources attorney Jim Noe was quoted in a Law360 article exploring how law firms are advising clients with regard to business strategy in Venezuela following the arrest of former President Nicolás Maduro. Mr. Noe explained that in the days following the U.S. military operation to arrest Maduro, client inquiries have focused on reassessing investment and transactional plans amid political and economic uncertainty, particularly around the future of sanctions and trade restrictions. He also noted Holland & Knight is well positioned to assist companies in industries including oil and gas, infrastructure, construction and financial services on potential Venezuela market reentry and international trade compliance.

"There's certainly a lot of fundamental and threshold questions that remain before a business enterprise can determine whether or not reentry into Venezuela makes sense for their employees and operation," he said. "A lot of these threshold questions surround who's in charge of the government and what will the commercial arrangements be for U.S. companies entering Venezuela."
