Mergers and Acquisitions in 2026 on Hold, Pending the Next National Government's Plan

Portafolio

Bogotá Executive Partner Enrique Gómez-Pinzón was interviewed by Portafolio about Colombia's performance in the Latin American mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market and the outlook for 2026. Mr. Gómez-Pinzón, who focuses his practice on corporate/M&A matters, highlighted that the country gained relevance in the regional market, even though the number of transactions declined in 2025, as a result of higher total deal values driven largely by high-impact transactions led by Colombian business groups – particularly in the financial sector – and by interest from international investors, private equity and venture capital funds, and multilateral institutions. He also noted that the political and regulatory environment will influence both the pace and structure of deals, prompting investors and companies to prioritize more robust deal frameworks and investment decisions with a greater focus on certainty and execution.

"The country enters 2026 with greater demands for governance, fiscal risk mitigation and regulatory clarity. Therefore, we will have to wait for the next government's plan to be defined," he said.
