Corona Industrial Stopped the Registration of the Chinese Company Coronet in the Superintendence

Intellectual Property attorney Danilo Romero was cited in Asuntos Legales commenting on a decision by Colombia's Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) denying the registration of the mixed trademark Coronet for maintenance and repair services in Class 37. The application, filed by Chinese company Anhui Coronet Tech. Co., Ltd., was opposed by Corona Industrial S.A.S., which argued that Coronet was too similar to its well-known family of Corona trademarks and could generate confusion among consumers. Mr. Romero discussed the significance of the SIC's recognition of well-known trademarks and the evidentiary assessment required to demonstrate a trademark's recognition within a particular sector.

"The recognition of a well-known trademark by the SIC is an important exercise in the assessment of evidence that demonstrates the recognition of a trademark in a given sector," he said.
