New BigLaw Competition Is Changing the Seattle Market

Law360

Executive Partner of Holland & Knight's Seattle office Scott MacCormack was quoted in a Law360 article examining the rapid expansion of BigLaw firms into the Seattle market and the increasing demand for sophisticated legal services. The article explored how growth among technology companies, a maturing mergers and acquisitions market, expanding regulatory challenges and rising litigation activity are attracting national firms to the region. Mr. MacCormack noted that Washington's M&A market has become more active and sophisticated, benefiting professionals across the legal, accounting and banking sectors. He also highlighted increased demand for intellectual property litigation and the growing number of wage-and-hour class action lawsuits affecting employers across a wide range of industries.

"I think everybody who represents industry in Washington is seeing wage and hour class action suits," he said. "Could be aerospace, could be aviation, could be agriculture, could be healthcare. All those industries are seeing increased attention by plaintiffs firms looking to sue over wage and hour violations, and these become very technical lawsuits."
