Meet the Attorneys Behind Law Firm Private Equity-MSO Deals
Legal Services Transactions attorneys Trisha Rich and Joshua Porte were quoted in an American Lawyer article examining the growing market for management services organization (MSO) transactions in the legal industry. The article highlighted increasing interest from law firms and private equity investors seeking to leverage MSO structures to access capital, invest in technology and enhance competitiveness while complying with legal ethics, professional responsibility and other regulatory requirements. As evidence of the sector's rapid rise, Joshua told The American Lawyer that Holland & Knight supported seven law firm MSO deals in 2025 and is on track to advance 27 deals in 2026. Trisha added that interest in MSOs has expanded beyond personal injury firms to include firms of all sizes, practice areas and geographic footprints.
"There is a market for any kind of firm that is interested in accessing capital this way, and so we are seeing a real diversification of the law firms coming into this space," she said, noting that Holland & Knight's law firm client base spans boutiques, midsize firms and Am Law 200 firms.
Joshua pointed to an increasingly competitive market for clients and talent as a key driver behind firms' interest in MSOs, explaining that capital raised through these structures can be used to invest in technology, marketing and growth initiatives.
