Insurance Defense Law Firms Draw Interest from PE Investors

Law360

Private Equity attorney Joshua Porte was quoted in a Law360 article examining the growing interest of private equity investors in insurance defense law firms and the increasing use of management services organization (MSO) structures in the legal industry. The article explored why insurance defense firms are attracting attention from investors, citing their high-volume practices, recurring institutional client relationships and scalable business models. Drawing on his experience advising on MSO transactions as a co-leader of the firm's Legal Services Transactions Team, Josh explained that insurance defense firms often align more naturally with private equity investors than plaintiff-side practices, helping drive capital toward the sector as investment activity in the legal market continues to expand.

"That's why insurance defense is a much more natural fit with private equity and their investor base," he said. "It doesn't have the reputational risks."
