Holland & Knight Advises Laureate Education on Agreement to Transfer Honduras Operations

MIAMI (October 22, 2020) – Holland & Knight advised Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LAUR) on its agreement with Fundación Nasser para el Desarrollo Educativo de Centroamerica (Fundación Nasser) to transfer control of Fundaempresa, which manages Laureate’s operations in Honduras, including Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) and Centro Universitario Tecnológico (CEUTEC). The agreement was announced on October 13.

Laureate is the largest international network of degree-granting higher education institutions, with more than 900,000 students enrolled at over 20 institutions in eight countries.

Fundación Nasser is a not-for-profit foundation with more than 20 years of experience in Honduras, having developed and implemented initiatives focused on education, social development and entrepreneurship in the country. UNITEC and CEUTEC collectively enroll more than 23,000 students in technical, undergraduate and postgraduate programs in health, business, communications, engineering and information technology.

The team advising Laureate included Partners Henry Roque, George Mencio and Marilyn J. Holifield and Associates Alexis Mason and Daniel Ramos.

Holland & Knight advised on Laureate's approximately $80 million agreement with Universal Knowledge Systems Inc. and Global Education Services Inc. for the sale of Universidad Interamericana de Panamá in 2019 and on the sale of Universidad Latina de Costa Rica (ULatina) and Universidad Americana, Costa Rica (UAM) to a U.S. private equity fund earlier this year.
