Holland & Knight Strengthens State and Local Tax Practice with Additions of Sam Megally, Will LeDoux and Cindy Ohlenforst in Texas
DALLAS (May 18, 2026) – Highly regarded State and Local Tax (SALT) attorneys Sam Megally, Will LeDoux and Cindy Ohlenforst have joined Holland & Knight's Dallas office as members of the Firm's Tax, Executive Compensation and Benefits Practice Group. Mr. Megally and Mr. LeDoux have joined as partners and Ms. Ohlenforst as senior counsel. They were previously with K&L Gates, where Mr. Megally and Mr. LeDoux were partners and Ms. Ohlenforst was senior of counsel.

Mr. Megally focuses his SALT practice on both Texas and multistate matters, particularly tax planning and controversies involving income tax, sales tax, franchise tax and property tax, as well as government relations matters involving taxing agencies and state legislatures nationally. He regularly advises clients on SALT planning in connection with structuring matters, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial transactions and has represented taxpayers in administrative proceedings and litigation opposite the Texas Comptroller, other state departments of revenue and local taxing jurisdictions. He is consistently recognized as a top tax practitioner by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America and The Legal 500. Mr. Megally earned a J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law and a B.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University.
Mr. LeDoux's broad SALT practice includes Texas and multistate matters and state and local incentives, including work involving incentives for data center, renewable energy and other capital-intensive projects. His representations include taxpayers from various industries, with extensive experience advising e-commerce retailers, renewable energy companies, healthcare companies, manufacturers, software and technology companies, data center developers and operators, and travel companies. He is recognized as a top tax practitioner by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 and was named to The Best Lawyers in America's "Ones to Watch" list for tax litigaiton and controversy in 2022. Mr. LeDoux currently serves as chair of the State and Local Tax Committee of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section. He earned J.D. and LL.M. degrees from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. degree from McNeese State University.
Ms. Ohlenforst has a broad tax practice that involves planning and controversy work around the country. She has extensive experience with state and local taxes, with tax controversy matters including litigation and administrative proceedings, and with legislative work. Ms. Ohlenforst frequently works with the energy, technology, broadcasting, transportation and airline industries and has also worked with legislators on drafting multiple provisions of the Texas Tax Code. She received the 2018 Outstanding Texas Tax Lawyer award from the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas; was named The Best Lawyers in America Tax "Lawyer of the Year" in Dallas/Fort Worth in 2017; and is recognized by Chambers USA and The Legal 500. Ms. Ohlenforst is a member of the American College of Tax Counsel and has served as past chair of the State Bar of Texas and Dallas Bar Association Tax Sections. She earned a J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, an M.A. degree from the University of Dallas and a B.A. degree from Loyola University New Orleans.
