Taite R. McDonald is a partner in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm's Public Policy & Regulation Group. Ms. McDonald works with energy and clean technology companies to develop and execute strategies to pursue Executive Branch federal government programs across multiple states and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Ms. McDonald provides counsel to companies seeking to collaborate and assist the federal government in meeting its energy procurement and resiliency needs in a manner that aligns with the commercial market. She helps companies pursue government funding and financing programs, as well as develop strategies for leveraging public and private financing mechanisms to commercialize innovative energy technologies. Ms. McDonald regularly plays a pivotal role in assisting clients to overcome gating obstacles by forging key partnerships with federal agencies and other government-facing bodies.

Additionally, Ms. McDonald is a frequent speaker on topics related to renewable energy and government finance and has spoken at dozens of conferences and events, including the Defense Energy Innovation Summit, the Association of Defense Communities Advanced Energy Summit, BIO World Congress, the DOE Bioenergy Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference and the Power-Gen International Finance Forum.

Ms. McDonald has extensive experience leading projects in energy storage, grid integration, electric vehicles, solar energy technology, renewable chemicals, renewable fuels and innovative materials. Select representative matters include:

  • assisting the U.S. Department of Navy in executing a lease for the largest energy storage resiliency project to date
  • assisting the leading flow battery energy storage technology provider in obtaining numerous procurement awards from the DOD
  • assisting a leading renewable energy developer in deploying the first long-term solar energy procurement project on a DOD installation
  • assisting a renewable energy developer in obtaining $3 million from the Department of Navy and California Energy Commission to demonstrate a first-of-its-kind solar microgrid with energy storage
  • assisting numerous Fortune 500 technology companies in developing strategies to collaborate with the federal government in a manner that enables wide-scale innovation
  • advising multiple innovative companies in obtaining more than $15 million in research grants from the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, including over $5 million from the DOE SunShot Initiatives
  • leading multiple project teams successfully through the DOE Loan Programs Office for Advanced Fossil Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Projects
  • leading project teams successfully through the USDA Section 9003 Advanced Biorefinery Assistance Program
  • assisting an advanced drop-in biofuels company to secure $70 million under the Defense Production Act's Advanced Drop-In Biofuels Program
  • advising multiple leading renewable energy project developers and financiers in qualifying for the U.S. Army's $7 billion Multiple Award Task Order Contract
