Overview
Douglas G. Merkel is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Century City office. Mr. Merkel focuses his practice on complex commercial real estate transactions.
Mr. Merkel is experienced in joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, construction, mortgage and mezzanine financings, development, leasing and various other real estate transactions. He has represented clients on a variety of asset types, including multifamily residential, office buildings, industrial parks, shopping centers, hotels and development land.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Merkel was an attorney at a boutique national real estate law firm in Los Angeles. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Philip S. Gutierrez of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

- Represented an international hotel company in a membership interest purchase and sale of a historic property in San Francisco, California
- Represented an institutional real estate investor in the marketing and sales of office and industrial properties in Southern California
- Represented a technology company in an acquisition of its new corporate headquarters in Southern California
- Represented a development firm in the sale of a ground-leased medical office building in Antelope Valley, California
- Represented an investment firm in the formation of a joint venture for, and the acquisition and financing of, a 26-property multistate industrial portfolio
- Represented a lending client in the origination, modifications and financing repurchase of multifamily residential, commercial and industrial properties in various states
- Represented a real estate investment client in the acquisition and operation of various single-tenant and shopping center commercial properties in California, Nevada and Illinois
