Overview

Joseph Speight is a business attorney in Holland & Knight's Charlotte office. Mr. Speight focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and represents acquirers and targets from a wide range of industries, including information technology, software services, government contracts and banking.

In addition to his M&A practice, Mr. Speight counsels clients on commercial transactions and general corporate and securities matters, including private placements and venture capital investments.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Speight was an attorney in the Greensboro, North Carolina, office of an international law firm. During law school, he served on the staff of the Wake Forest Journal of Business and Intellectual Property Law.

Prior to law school, Mr. Speight worked in real estate development, construction and property management for more than a decade. His experience as an owner and operator of several companies helps him relate to clients' business challenges and provide efficient legal services.

  • Represented Heartwood Partners, a private equity firm, in its sale of High Bar Brands, a leading manufacturer and distributor of branded heavy-duty truck aftermarket accessories, to Sentinel Capital Partners, a private equity firm
  • Represented a fully integrated academic medical center and health system based in North Carolina, including a university medical school, in a combination with an integrated nonprofit health system; deal valued at approximately $3.5 billion
  • Represented a leading payments and technology company in the acquisition of the assets or equity interests in a series of rollup entities; deals valued at approximately $10 million to $60 million
  • Represented a chemical manufacturer in a merger with a special purpose entity, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021; deal valued at approximately $250 million
  • Represented a company that designs, manufactures and distributes equipment that facilitates the mobility of people with special needs in the acquisition of the equity interests of a lift installation company; deal valued at approximately $5 million
  • Represented an investment company in the acquisition of the equity interests of an omnichannel distribution specialist; deal valued at approximately $40 million
  • Represented a retirement community in the acquisition of the equity interests of a competitor; deal valued at approximately $35 million
  • Represented a private equity firm in a merger, which resulted in the acquisition of new portfolio company; deal valued at approximately $50 million
  • Represented a full-service home care agency in the sale of substantially all of its assets to a leading provider of comprehensive home- and community-based health services and a provider of home medical equipment in two separate, parallel transactions; approximate combined deal value of more than $150 million
  • Represented a provider of environmental and industrial waste management services in the sale of its equity interests to a private equity firm; deal valued at approximately $100 million
  • Represented an online marketplace for luxury pre-owned watches in the sale of its equity interests to a New York City-based watch website; deal valued at more than $30 million
  • Represented the owner and operator of a series of radio stations in the sale of its equity interests in a strategic acquisition; deal valued at approximately $5 million
  • Represented a senior living facility in the sale of substantially all of its assets to a strategic acquirer; deal valued at approximately $550 million
  • Represented a company that provides lumber, roofing, siding, decking, windows, doors, skylights, paint, hardware and molding to contractors and homeowners in the sale of its equity interests to one of the largest building products distributors in the U.S.; deal valued at more than $15 million
  • Represented a full-service lumber yard in the sale of its equity interests to one of the largest building products distributors in the U.S.; deal valued at more than $75 million
  • Represented a self-storage facility builder in the sale of its equity interests to a strategic acquirer; deal valued at approximately $50 million
  • Represented a radiology practice in the sale of its equity interests to one of the largest radiology practices in the U.S.; deal valued at approximately $55 million

  • Represented a major bank in the financing of two vessels; deal valued at approximately $350 million
  • Represented a startup software company in the issuance of a Series A round to a multinational corporation; deal valued at approximately $35 million
