Think Like a Lawyer, Talk Like a Geek 2026: Get Fluent in Technology, Practising Law Institute (PLI)
Entrance on 45th Street
New York, New York 10036
Data privacy and cybersecurity attorney Mark Francis will participate in the Practising Law Institute's (PLI) "Think Like a Lawyer, Talk Like a Geek" program, a day-long seminar dedicated to educating attorneys on the legal and business issues that have arisen with the advent of autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) systems and next-generation cyber threats. Attendees will learn about significant privacy law developments affecting both domestic and international companies, negotiating technology agreements involving AI, software-as-a-service (SaaS), cybersecurity and data rights, along with the ethical obligations and professional responsibility questions surrounding lawyers' use of AI tools.
Mark's presentation will focus on quantum computing, giving listeners a scope of the legal and practical implications on the horizon as quantum technology nears commercial use. He will emphasize why attorneys need to pay attention to developments in quantum technology and what industries will be most affected by its widespread adoption, in addition to the risks this emerging technology poses for current encryption and cybersecurity infrastructure. The session will also cover post-quantum cryptography readiness, data privacy and security requirements, emerging business applications, and contracting, disclosure and governance issues involving quantum vendors. It will additionally feature a look ahead at anticipated regulatory and standards adaptation initiatives.
