In response to the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. has imposed sanctions targeting Russian elites, proxies and oligarchs. Violation of U.S. sanctions is a strict liability offense, meaning that a person can be held liable for committing a civil violation of sanctions irrespective of that person's knowledge or degree of fault.
