GAO Reviews Issues in Implementing and Reporting on the Buy American Act

Pratt's Government Contracting Law Report
Angela M. Jimenez

Government Contracts Attorney Mitchell Bashur and Angela Jimenez wrote an article for Pratt’s Government Contracting Law Report on the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) recently published report on the implementation of the Buy American Act. The Buy American Act of 1933 was created to push government agencies to procure domestic products and items versus foreign products. Mr. Bashur and Ms. Jimenez discuss Congress' request that GAO conduct an investigation to review the federal agencies implementation and reporting on the Buy American Act.

The investigation found that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) will have to improve their agency guidance and training to ensure compliance with the Act.
