District Court Again Finds Patents for Updating Toolbar Without User Intervention Invalid

Intellectual Property Partner Allison Lucier authored an article in the Intellectual Property & Technology Law Journal about a recent district court decision ruling patents for updating computer toolbars without user intervention invalid. On remand from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California once again found patents directed to a method of modifying toolbars without user interaction invalid under 35 U.S.C. § 101.
