Ship Finance: USA Chapter
Attorneys Richard Furey, Jovi Tenev, Richard Crowley, Jonathan Epstein, Michael Frevola, Gerald Morrissey and Barbra Parlin co-authored the USA Chapter of the Lexology Panoramic: Ship Finance 2025 guide. The publication features jurisdictional analysis of laws and regulations pertaining to ship finance. The chapter written by Holland & Knight answers a range of questions about due diligence, repayment, registration of vessels, ship mortgages and other liens over vessels, collateral, taxes, and insolvency and restructuring; specific topics include how to demonstrate title to or legal ownership of a vessel, what vessels are eligible for registration, what types of ship mortgages exist and how they are registered, what tax incentives are available to shipowners and how bankruptcy in the U.S. works. The chapter concludes with an overview of current developments and trends in maritime finance, from new tariffs and port calls fees to sanctions on Russia crude oil and petroleum product exports.
Mr. Furey and Mr. Tenev also served as editors of the guide and co-authored its introduction.
