How Well Is Colombia's Ecopetrol Performing?
Inter-American Dialogue’s Daily Latin America Advisor
Inter-American Dialogue’s Daily Latin America Advisor posed a question to energy industry practitioners about the outlook and challenges that Ecopetrol will face this year. The company overtook Brazil's Petrobas as the largest listed energy company in Latin America, but its market capitalization has fallen around 40 percent since then. Latin America Partner Enrique Gómez-Pinzón notes that this was a significant drop for Ecopetrol.
"The stock value fell at the same time that Brazil's and Colombia's currency lost ground against the U.S. dollar," Mr. Gómez-Pinzón noted.
