HIPAA Boss Sees 'Low-Hanging Fruit' Ripe For Enforcement
HIPAA and Healthcare Privacy attorney Shannon Hartsfield explains that during a breach there remains a temptation to stay silent, given that scofflaws can avoid punishment completely while honest entities end up facing discipline.
"The frustrating thing is that, unless someone happens to find out about the breach some other way, they do get away with it, presumably, while entities that comply and report could be punished," Ms. Hartsfield said.
