An Energy Makeover for Colombia
Energy and Natural Resources Partner José Zapata was interviewed for an fDi Intelligence article discussing Colombia's push to expand its renewable energy sector. The county has accelerated efforts to attract foreign investment and diversify its energy output, and fDi reports that Colombia expects to allocate about 5GW of renewable energy capacity to be connected to the grid by the end of 2022. Mr. Zapata explained, however, that despite these incentives, issues including consultation with local indigenous communities and public aversion to construction can still impede projects, in addition to financial hurdles.
"At the end of the day, renewables are more expensive and there is limited capacity on the grid," he said.
