Early Blueprints Emerge for Health Care's Role in Housing

Healthcare policy attorney attorney Lisa Hawke was interviewed by Law360 in an article about housing and health. Recognizing that housing is a social determinant of health, affordable housing developers and healthcare organizations have been teaming up to provide patients with stable housing after being discharged. Ms. Hawke said hospitals can support affordable housing players by recognizing and helping guide patients into housing.

"You have patients that can board for up to a year because the hospital literally has nowhere to send them and doesn't want to discharge someone who can't be safely discharged," said Ms. Hawke. "Hospitals are getting backed up… they don't have a place to be able to discharge their patients."
