Litigation attorney Michael Hantman was recently quoted in an Anti-Corruption Report article about the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) plan to launch a pilot program to reward whistleblowers. In the article, Mr. Hantman examined the new risks for companies considering voluntary self-disclosure following the DOJ's announcement. He also analyzed the government's plan to compensate potential whistleblowers using existing statutory powers through Title 28 of the U.S. Code, instead of appealing to Congress for approval or monetary support.
"The DOJ submits that it has the power to provide these types of rewards despite it not being codified in any new law," said Mr. Hantman. "The DOJ says it had this power all along in this broad sense."
