Transportation Policies to Watch in 2025: A Midyear Report
Law360
International Trade attorney Patrick Childress was quoted in a Law360 article about key transportation policies shaping the second half of 2025, including sweeping new tariffs, shifting vehicle emission standards and aviation safety reforms. The article highlighted how recent tariffs have disrupted automotive supply chains and complicated compliance with trade agreements such as United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Mr. Childress highlighted that automakers are confronting significant difficulties with emerging trade issues precisely when they were close to fully complying with the North American content requirements under USMCA, describing the current environment as exceptionally demanding for the industry.
"Automakers spent years optimizing their supply chains to include more North American content, and it took them quite a while to be able to meet the full rules of origin under USMCA," he said. "And just as they're reaching that point, all of a sudden, there are all of these new issues that come into play for them... This all adds up to a very challenging time for automakers."
